John Fox and his team recently completed a major remodel of our 1937 San Francisco home, including a stairway replacement, seismic reinforcing, new kitchen and bathroom, and replacement of the heating system and many windows. The work took about a year - slightly longer than the initial estimate but understandable given pandemic-related supply chain issues and a few unexpected construction issues. We found it very easy to work with John, office manager Judit, foreman Mateo, and the rest of the North Bay team, and we are extremely happy with the final result. North Bay communications are excellent - starting from the detailed bid submission and discussions and the initial schedule projection and continuing through the actual construction work and inevitable adjustments to the project plans. John provided weekly updates on work completed and next steps. As questions or issues arise, we had the opportunity to first discuss these in person with written follow-up on the path forward. We had about a dozen change orders from the original plan, some due to our own choices and requests and some due to issues discovered during construction; the options and costs for these change orders were always clearly communicated in writing. We were also given updated construction schedules on a regular basis. Most importantly, we are extremely happy with the overall quality of the work and the final results. Minor problems were all resolved quickly; our only significant problem related to a new wood floor, which John addressed by replacing the original subcontractor and covering the additional cost. We were able to interact directly with the sub-contractors as needed, to resolve our specific concerns and to ask questions about maintenance or operational requirements for the new items. John and Judit were also quick to follow up on the handful of minor issues that we discovered after the project was completed.

JNBC team (John, Judit, carpenters, etc) are highly professional and high quality general contractors. I would engage with NBC again on all my home projects and look forward to the next one. (1) Scope of job: NBC renovated the entire exterior of my house, including demolition, new windows, carpentry, bolting/bracing, insulation, water-proofing, concrete, stucco, plastering, lighting, paint, roofing, permitting. (2) Timeliness: NBC worked strenuously to ensure the project was completed on time. The entire crew, including sub-contractors, committed to showing up on time or early and completed each division/piece on time. (3) Quality: NBC rigorously vets their sub-contractors. Every sub-contractor has high standards and is passionate about their craft. Every team left the site well-organized and clean. (4) Communication & Organization: NBC is highly experienced, so the coordination with carpenters, sub-contractors, and permitting was seamless. They anticipated my questions and needs and were very responsive to requests and changes. John sent a weekly update on the upcoming week, and checked in regularly during the week.

He even stepped in and helped us with some items that were not part of the original contract to be certain that we were pleased. Look no further, NBC is exceptional We found NBC in the fall of 2017 when searching endlessly for general contractors for a full remodel we were doing to our home in San Francisco. Kitchens, baths, plumbing, heating, paint, floors...the works There must be too much business in the city because many of the high end GCs we met with were cocky and noted that they didn't even want to consider a job if it was less than $500k. Unbelievable! Our first meeting with John Fox at NBC was exactly the opposite. John was pleasant, knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely excited to work with us. He took the time to understand our vision, and even suggested designers that we might want to work with for floor plans, kitchen & bath layouts, and cabinetry. Over the coming weeks we met with John and Judit numerous times and agreed on the full scope of work at a reasonable price, and then the NBC team got to work. Everyone knows that a full home remodel comes with its set of challenges. Every home is unique and you never know what you're going to encounter when you open up walls and see what's inside. This is where the NBC team shines. We encountered everything from faulty plumbing, to a worn out furnace, to leaks in our roof and siding...we also decided to change some things along the way, including install some new windows, changing the locations of a few doors, and rewiring the electrical. We had dark paneling throughout, which we loved. We had contractors come in and say that it would be impossible to keep the paneling because it would be impossible to match. With John it never even came up as a challenge. We were so worried our home wouldn't retain the San Francisco feel that we fell in love with. With the addition of the bedroom and the new walls, you can't even tell where the old walls were, it looks perfect. He found a glass specialist who created a piece of art and solved a challenging design issue with the creation of the new room. John's communication skills are top notch and he follows through with what he says he's going to do 100%. Remodeling is stressful on everyone, but with someone like John - kind,honest,competent - in your corner it makes the process doable. We didn't have a designer helping us through the decision making, John was patient and his team helpful, my visions literally came to life. We are so happy with our results, and would use his team again in a heart beat with absolutely no hesitation.

We just finished a four-month remodel project with John and North Bay and had a fantastic experience. John is a busy guy with many teams and ongoing projects, but somehow he always makes you feel like your project is his #1 priority. He is super responsive, attentive to detail, sensitive to your particular needs and timelines, and committed to ensuring you're happy with the final product. He chases down permitting with the City on his own time and dollar, advises you ahead of time and asks you to confirm when things go above budget (whether because you decide to do more/different work or unforeseen issues arise), sends weekly emails recapping what was completed that week and what will be completed in the next two weeks, regularly meets in person to discuss ideas and do walk-throughs, meticulously coordinates all of North Bay's subs, etc. We needed to move in on a particular date and John kept his word, making sure the work was completed on a very tight timeline. There were small touch-ups that needed to be done after we moved in, but John made sure they were done promptly. Mateo, the foreman on our project, was also fantastic. He and all the teams who worked on our house did beautiful work and were very respectful of our time and space. They never grumbled when we were super nit-picky (which was often), and approached everything with a positive attitude. Judit in North Bay's office is also great - - again, very responsive, professional, and thorough. Perhaps most importantly, the work North Bay did on our place is top notch. We feel very fortunate to have worked with them and look forward to future projects.

We hired them to do a six month full floor renovation that included:

- Master bedroom with a modern wood/metal accent wall

First off, they were incredibly polite to my neighbors, enough that many of them commented on how courteous they were and asked for business cards for their services. Second, they put up with my perfectionistic eye for detail and made the changes without complaint. Third, they provided an update every Sunday or Monday with a list of what they were accomplishing that week and any questions they needed answered from us -- very organized and transparent. And lastly, they provided a fixed bid that they kept to and for any change orders I requested, they meticulously sent through pre-approvals to ensure we were both on the same page regarding costs. 

I have another basement remodel project I likely will embark on in five years and I would definitely hire them again.

Had a complete remodel of two bathrooms. Had the originals still in since 1928. Everything had to be updated. Plumbing elec everything. The end result is beautiful. John and Northbay were easy to work with. Always communicated what was going on. It took longer than anticipated, but some of that was us making changes or trying to make up our minds. John and his team, alongside with our awesome designer Rachel Seldin were the crew who demolished our existing kitchen and rebuilt our kitchen and living room area to a beautiful, modern, open concept floor plan.
